Combat Loneliness and Lift your Spirits with Yoga
What I am going to tell you now is very special for me. There was a time when I used to suffer from loneliness, and there was perhaps no reason for it. I have a loving husband, cheerful kids and a wonderful family, but there are times when you feel you can’t relate to any of them. You gradually start shrinking into a world of your own; in short, you begin to feel lonely. It was then that yoga came to my rescue.
Being a continuous yoga practitioner, I would like to assure you that drinks or pills are not the only solutions to get rid of loneliness. I do not need to tell you that they come with their own bouquet of side effects. If you practice yoga, you do not need anti-depressants to calm your mind and lift up your spirits. So, however much you are feeling broken, sad or depressed, take the help of yoga and simply forget the pills and drinks.
If you feel that you are the only one who is lonely and sad, think again. There are many people who experience blues in their life and feel that they are excessively burdened with their challenges and bottled up emotions, which do not seem to leave them. Yoga can indeed help you come out of that lonely feeling by experiencing a kind of emotional freedom, empowerment and resolution.
The asanas or postures of yoga are particularly designed to help your body and mind meditate. Get this clear, spiritual awareness is impossible if your body and mind are not in harmony. Yoga addresses this absence of harmony, and emerges as an effective solution for calming the body and mind. Therefore by roping in yoga into your day-to-day routine, you can remove your mental clutter (which is one of the main causes of loneliness) and move a step ahead towards happiness.
At a more scientific level, practicing yoga asanas regularly increases the GABA (a neurotransmitter) level in the body, and this helps in driving away loneliness. Your spirits are lifted and you feel more connected with the world.
Kundalini yoga- the cure for loneliness
All yoga practices are not the same. After its introduction in the West, yoga has undergone a lot of modifications to fit into different lifestyles and address varied spiritual, physical and emotional needs. So, it is essential to go for a yoga practice that will suit you both mentally and physically.
It is true that a number of yoga techniques are quite challenging to practice and bring in a lot of stress. These are actually for advanced practitioners, and if you are a beginner, the best thing is to avoid these. Some of the physically demanding techniques of yoga are Ashtanga and Power Yoga. Likewise, you also need to focus on the benefits that you are deriving, that is, whether a particular technique of yoga is a cure for loneliness or not. For instance, Bikram yoga and Vinyasa Flow yoga reduce unwanted weight rather than helping you obtain mental clarity.
Given this, Kundalini yoga is the best if you want to attain mental clarity and complete health. If you have never practiced yoga before, join a preliminary Kundalini class in order to alleviate anxiety, loneliness, frustration, sadness and doubt.
How yoga asanas eliminate melancholy
Yoga asanas were actually designed for soothing the external and internal organs of the body through a reduction or increase in the supply of blood to particular areas. This triggers better circulation and helps the body get rid of unnecessary fluids and associated toxins. This in turn stimulates hormones and neurotransmitters bringing in happy and positive emotions.
Yoga asanas always keep you vibrant and fresh, through stimulation of specific aspects in the body’s energy system, which is in fact a combination of energy channels or energy centers. With stimulation of the energy system, the emotional blockages are eliminated and you are able to reach a more organized, happier and more peaceful mindset.
In other words, if you regularly practice yoga, your life will take a fresh turn as you attain emotional freedom and other observable physical benefits. This will gradually help remove loneliness from your life. If you are not convinced by what I say, try it out yourself and you will soon feel the difference!
